Week of January 21st

Monday, January 21st there will be no school due to the extreme cold weather.
Tuesday, January 22nd will be rotation day 9.

This week we will be finishing our mammal projects.  This has been an in-class project.  Students will NOT have to do any work outside of the classroom.

Students have been working in small groups to research their chosen animal.  After reading information about their animal they took notes on a graphic organizer.  Students are currently working on taking these notes and turning them into a Google Slides presentation.  These presentations will then be presented to the rest of the class.  We will hopefully be able to start the presentations on Wednesday and they will continue through the remainder of the week.

North Schuylkill Elementary is very excited to host the Boosterthon Fun Run again this year!!  Please continue to check back on my blog for daily updates.  Please continue to collect donations throughout this week.  Donations go towards funding our field trips and end of the year field day.  This one-time donation event eliminates the need for multiple fundraisers being sent home throughout the school year.

If you would like to order from January’s Scholastic book order, please send in your check (made out to Scholastic Book Order) or order online by January 25th.

Please remember to look at the important dates (to the right) for other important happenings in January.

Remember if there is a snow day, we do not skip that day’s rotation day.  We will continue with the rotation when we return to school.  For example:  Friday was day 8, Monday should be day 9 but there is a snow day.  Therefore, Tuesday will be day 9.

Please take the time to wash your child’s belongings to help eliminate germs from school.  Remind your child about the importance of washing their hands often.

Jan. 15: Boosterthon Update! :)

Parents,

Our class is having a blast preparing for the North Schuylkill Fun Run coming up soon! We've also begun to learn how to solve problems using character through Boosterthon's character theme, MindSpark Mystery Lab. While they're teaming up with the MindSpark Kids to solve mysteries, your students will learn five 21st-century character traits that will help strengthen themselves and our world. Make sure to ask your students what they've learned each day, and together you can watch the story unfold on funrun.com

Remember, we need your help connecting to sponsors who can make a pledge to help our school! Please make sure all pledges for the North Schuylkill Fun Run are entered on funrun.com. The more pledges we get, the more incentives our class earns on our Pledge-O-Meter.

Thank you for your generosity and support of our school. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Have a great day!

Week of January 14th

Monday, January 14th will be rotation day 4.

This week we will be starting a project on mammals from Pennsylvania.  This will be an in-class project.  Students will NOT have to do any work outside of the classroom.
Students will work in small groups to research their chosen animal.  After reading information about their animal they will be taking notes on a graphic organizer.  They will then take these notes and turn it into a Google Slides presentation.  The group will present the project to their classmates.  I am anticipating that this project will take us until the end next week to complete, but may take longer.

North Schuylkill Elementary is very excited to host the Boosterthon Fun Run again this year!!  A postcard was sent home with your child today.  Please take a moment to register your child on funrun.com. Thank you in advance for all of your support!!  Below is a letter from our school PTo:
 Parents,

Our North Schuylkill Fun Run kicked off today, and we are thrilled about this year’s program! We’ve asked the Fun Run experts at Boosterthon to power our Fun Run program (which will last about two weeks), making our fundraising simpler, more profitable, and more fun. Our Fun Run includes EVERY student in a fun, fitness event while helping our school raise much-needed funds.

This year, our entire school is raising funds for field trips, education programs, and fun day . Our goal is to raise $15,000 , and we need YOUR help!

Here’s a quick video on how you can support North Schuylkill Elementary:
(RUN-AND-DONE COLLECTION VIDEO)-https://vimeo.com/279380488/36866a5836

  • Register your student on funrun.com simply by searching our school name, “North Schuylkill” Then, use funrun.comto log pledges for your child.
  • Reach out to sponsors. Every student’s goal is to connect with 10 sponsors. And with funrun.com’s smart sharing features, reaching out to sponsors is easier than ever. The easiest way to get pledges is to simply click the Facebook share button on your student’s pledge page. Plus, with a few clicks you can create a custom Student Star video to share on social media. You can also use the Easy Emailer to connect with friends and family. As you gather pledges, be sure to record each sponsor’s e-mail address so they have the opportunity to easily pay for your student’s pledge online via credit card. (remember, $1 per lap = $30 flat, so $5 per lap = $150, $10 per lap = $300, etc).
  • Ask your child about the Mindspark Mystery Lab Character Lesson of the day! This year’s character program is Mindstark Mystery Lab, a S.T.E.A.M.-based theme all about solving problems with character! Join along by watching the fun character videos with your child on funrun.com.
  • The Fun Run is on January 24th!! All students are included in the Fun Run, regardless of financial participation. Remember, students will be running 30-35 laps, and we would love for you to come out and cheer!
Thank you for supporting our school. We hope to see you next week at the Fun Run!
Sincerely,
North Schuylkill PTO

Please remember to look at the important dates (to the right) for other important happenings in January.

Week of January 7

Monday, January 7th will be rotation day 9.

Due to a family emergency I was out of school last Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.  The plans for this week are subject to change.  I am not expecting any homework this week, so nightly plans should not change.  Depending on how far the students got in class last week will determine this week’s pace during class.  Tentatively the classroom schedule should be as follows.  On even rotations days we will also be working on our handwriting skills.
·        Monday and Tuesday: Reading Lesson 7 from the text book and working on pulling important information from a text to create a graphic organizer.
·        Wednesday and Thursday: Reading Lesson 8 from the text book and work on filling in an outline based on the text.
·        Friday: Finish any work from lessons 7 and 8.  Watch educational videos about how minerals and fossil fuels are mined and used
