Week of November 12th


Monday, November 12th students will have no school.   

Tuesday, November 13th will be rotation day 4 and students will have gym. 

Thanksgiving is around the corner!  We only have 6 ½ days left until break!  Before we go overboard with turkey and stuffing we are going to learn about the regions of Pennsylvania.  We will start out our week by defining vocabulary words.  We will then work with partners to read and fill out notes about the regions of PA.  We will use these notes to complete an in-class assignment next Tuesday.  Students will NOT have to study outside of class. 

Thank you to all those that have contributed party money to the classroom!!  If you have not donated money, it is not too late.  We will use some of the money again for Christmas and Valentine’s day.  Please send in party money with your child if you have not already done so.  Thank you! 

November book orders came home on Friday Nov. 3nd.  Please have all orders submitted online or sent in with your child (*checks made out to Scholastic) by Friday Nov. 30th. 

Please remember to look at the important dates (to the right) for important happenings in November.  *Shorts are no longer allowed.  They will be allowed again when Daylight Savings begins in the spring.

Week of November 5th


Monday, November 5th will be rotation day 9.  

This week in Social Studies we will be finishing up our Theme Park projects.  The students have really enjoyed making their theme parks!  We have expanded the project and are doing a cross-curricular writing activity.  Students have been very creative with their projects.  I am very pleased with how hard they are working!  On Tuesday I am hoping to have the projects done so that we can move on to learning our Pennsylvania state symbols. We will learn and practice the state symbols throughout the week.  We will have a quiz on the symbols on Friday. 

Thank you to all those that have contributed party money to the classroom!!  Some of this money was put to use for the Halloween party.  Each student received an ice-cream sandwich and an Orange Drink during the party.  If you have not donated money, it is not too late.  We will use some of the money again for Christmas and Valentine’s day.  Please send in party money with your child if you have not already done so.  Thank you! 

November book orders came home on Friday Nov. 3nd.  Please have all orders submitted online or sent in with your child (*checks made out to Scholastic) by Friday Nov. 30th. 

The first marking period has ended.  Report Cards will be coming home on Friday, Nov. 9th.   You may keep the report card.  Please sign and return the yellow envelope.

Week of Oct. 29th 2018


Monday Oct. 29th will be rotation day 4.  

This week in Social Studies, students will be working on making a map of a theme park.  They can make up a theme park or model it after an existing park.  Students will have to use a compass rose and map key on their map.  A writing project will also be incorporated.  All work will be done in the classroom.  Students may have already started their maps, and they are really excited about making them!  I am really excited to see their creativity!! This week we will also learn about the state symbols of Pennsylvania.  

Red ribbon week with finish this week.  Monday is crazy hair day and Tuesday students should wear read to support the end of bullying.  

Wednesday is our fall festival.   The Halloween Parade will be held on Wednesday Oct. 31st at 2:00 at the Spartan Stadium.  Students should NOT wear their costumes to school.  They will be able to change before the parade.  Please look in your child's red Spartan folder. A paper was sent home from the office with more detail.

November 4th: Daylight savings time ends.  This means that starting Monday, November 5th students at NSE will no longer be allowed to wear shorts to school.  Shorts will be allowed again in the spring when daylight savings time begins.

Week of Oct. 22


Monday Oct. 22nd  will be rotation day 9.  

This week in Social Studies we will continue learning about our state by taking a closer look at maps of PA and the PA state flag.

Please consider sending in a non-perishable food donation to help support the local food bank for the Feed-A-Friend campaign starting Oct. 24 and going through the week of November 12th.  

Save your spare change! Sparty is collecting coins for the Penny War.  The Penny War takes place Oct. 22nd-26th.  The winning classroom gets a pizza party!!

Week of October 15th


Monday Oct. 15th will be rotation day 4.  

In Social Studies we will be having a quiz Tuesday on labeling and reading a Compass Rose. Students will also need to use the compass rose to help them find information on a map.  A study guide can be found in your child's Social Studies folder.  Please be sure to review a little each night for the test.  For the rest of the week we will be figuring out "Where in the World" we are.  We will be breaking down our location from World-Continent-Country-State-then Town.

Week of Oct. 8th


Monday Oct. 8th there will be no school. 
Tuesday Oct. 9th will be rotation day 10.  

This week in Social Studies we will be learning cardinal directions by working on compass rose activities.  We will be continuing handwriting as well.    There will not be any homework this week in Social Studies.  

Please be advised that the 3 Branches of Government tests should have come home this past Friday in your child's Friday Folder.  Overall, students either did really good or really bad.  Please remember, this is only one quiz.  We will have plenty of time for students to do class work and work in their interactive notebooks to bring up grades.  This was the first test that students had to study for and many of them just need to practice this skill.

Week of October 1st, 2018

Monday Oct. 1st will be rotation day 5. 

Friday, Oct. 5th will be an early dismissal for students at 12 noon.  Monday, Oct. 8th students have no school.  Enjoy the long weekend!! 

This week we will be rounding out our government discussion by viewing the U.S. Constitution and the Pennsylvania Constitution.  Students will be working on creating a Classroom Constitution throughout the week!  There will be no homework this week.  We will be doing group work and having collaborative discussions during class time.
