Week of October 21st


Monday, October 21st will be rotation day 7. 

  • Handwriting
    • pages 35-38 will be done in class
    • handwriting worksheets for 35-38 will be coming home for homework
  • Social Studies
    • Last week we learned about where we are situated on our plant, continent, country, and state.  Students were given an “exit ticket” on Friday to assess what they had learned throughout the week.  If your child did not know all of the answers they will have the opportunity to practice during the week and have a small “quiz” on Wednesday.  If your child will be taking the “quiz” they will receive a study guide in their folder and have it written in their assignment book
    • This week we will be learning about the state symbols of PA.  Students will be expected to learn the following state symbols.  Please review these with your child.

      • Bird- ruffed grouse
      • Fish- brook trout
      • Flower- mountain laurel

  • This week we will be dressing up for Red Ribbon Week.  Please see your child’s Spartan Folder for more detailed information. This information came home on a flyer in this past Friday’s Spartan Folder.    
  • There will be no After School Program on the following days:
    • Tuesday, October 29th- DUE to Trunk or TREAT Thursday
    • October 31st – HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
    • Tuesday, November 5th – DUE to Monthly Faculty Mtg.
  • Please also see your child’s Spartan Folder regarding changes in the Fall Festival Parade.  Due to safety concerns there will no longer be a parade around the stadium.  The parade will be live streamed for your enjoyment at home.  Students will parade around the school only.

Week of October 7th, 2019


Monday, October 7th  will be rotation day 6.

  • Social Studies
    • We are learning about cardinal directions and how to use them while reading and using maps
    • The compass rose quiz will be on Thursday October 10th.  A study guide is in your child’s orange Social Studies folder.

  • This week is Book Fair Week.  Our class is scheduled to go on Monday 10-7.  Your child can shop on another day during a free time.  Parent night is Monday 10-7. 
  • Monday 10-7 students may wear jeans if they wear a blue shirt.  There is no cost.  If your child doesn’t wear a blue shirt, they must wear dress code clothing. 
  • Wednesday 10-10 picture retake days for the yearbook
  • Friday 10-12 Students have a 12:00 dismissal
  • Monday 10-14 Students do not have school

Week of September 30th


Monday, September 23rd will be rotation day 4.

  • Social Studies
    • We are learning about cardinal directions and how to use them while reading and using maps
    • We got behind last week and we will now have a quiz on Thursday October 10th.  A study guide should be coming home on Monday.  We will also be practicing in school.

  • This week is Homecoming Spirit Week.  Please follow the schedule that was sent home last week or that is located on the orange Oct. calendar.
    • Please refer to the following guidelines when dressing up for Spirit Week
      • If you are dressing in a costume for a theme day, your costume must reflect the theme! We’re NOT saying your costume must strictly follow our school dress code, BUT your costume DEFINITELY must be APPROPRIATE TO WEAR TO SCHOOL. If you aren’t certain that your costume is appropriate, then you probably shouldn’t wear it!
      • If you are not participating in a theme day by wearing a theme costume, then you MUST be in regular school dress code attire. No exceptions!
      • No hoodies
      • No masks

  • Next week is Book Fair Week.  If you send in money a head of time with your child, please make sure it is marked with the amount and in a sealed envelope.  I can hold on to their money until the day of our planned trip (Monday 10-7)

  • Parts of a Textbook Unit
    • we have discussed and practiced with Table of Contents and the Glossary
    • We will be learning about the Index on Monday and Tuesday
    • Wednesday we will review all parts of textbooks. 
      • please continue to review your child's packet that is in their orange folder
      • read and review the paragraph at the top of each page 
    • Thursday we will have our quiz on the parts of a textbook
    • Friday we will review the quiz and do a newspaper activity

Just a reminder that there is no school on Monday September 2 for Labor Day.  Enjoy the day off!!

This week in Social Studies we will be working on...

    • handwriting homework pages 8, 9, and 10
      • *homework pages 8 and 10 will be done in class.  
      • Page 9 should be coming home Thursday for homework
  • morning work for week 1
    • we will discuss the expectations for morning work
    • this will be done exclusively in school!  You do not need to worry about this at home! 
  • Textbook information unit
    • we will be learning about how to use a Table of Contents, Index, and Glossary. 
    • There will be a packet in your child's orange Social Studies folder.  Please look over this packet.  This will be your child's study guide for the quiz.  
    • There will be a quiz at the end of next week or the beginning of the following week (depending on how fast we get through the information)
      • please keep an eye on your child's assignment book for more an up-to-date quiz date.
